Hello! Welcome to the 70s.

If you follow me on Twitter or Instagram, you may already be aware that this summer I graced my wardrobe with a pair of flares. Exciting. This season has seen the recreation of an array of 70s trends - from tasselled suede to round-neck tees. The sartorial timeline has been disturbed, as items from the 70s have been dragged from history and dumped into Topshop - and not a single item has escaped the retro resurrection.

This, however, is not a complaint. My affection for all things vintage allows me to embrace the trend, and realise my affinity for flared jeans and striped tees. I have aspirations of becoming a retro-boho-groovy extraordinaire, or something of similar implications. I'm not there yet, but these jeans are my time machine.

The flared jean has, admittedly, been overdone in the bloggersphere, but I'm certainly not ashamed to add my rendition to the archive. Interestingly, the internet is saturated with images of women rocking these 70s staples, yet seeing flares being worn 'in real life' is a rarity. Perhaps I just need to surround myself with a more groovy crowd.

The funny thing with trends is that they don't always infiltrate the high street. With the exception of Next and River Island, no stores had a flare in sight as I desperately hunted.Thankfully TkMaxx came to the rescue with this pair and my faith in the retro resurrection was thus restored. Unlike the elusive flares, platformed sandals are absolutely in abundance on the high street. Options were plentiful, but I found myself lusting over these Primark heels - much to my surprise.

What are your thoughts on denim flares and the 70s trend in general? Team skinny or team flare?

I hope you enjoyed this photo-heavy post, featuring the photography of my wonderful friend Catherine. She's a glorious portrait taker, and you can view her work here!

Thank you for reading. Have a wonderful day, groovy chicks.

Hello, lovelies!

It is no secret that this summer fashion is taking a blast from the past. The 1970s are back. This season has borrowed the highlights of the era (flares, suede and experimental prints) and revamped them with a contemporary twist. Leading retailers ASOS and BooHoo have even dedicated sections of their websites to the trend.

I can't help but fall in love with the nostalgic designs currently available, but despite my admiration of the 70s revamp, I find myself picking up the vintage items in my wardrobe. A remake is a nice homage, but it's just not the real thing.

This dress fills me with flower power vibes and dreams hippie goodness. The abstract print is comparable to the gorgeous creations of vintage Emilio Pucci with remnants of the '64 Unikko print by iconic design house Marimekko. Although I adore the print of this authentic dress, for me, it is the collar that gives it oomph. Oversized collars are what 70s dreams are made of.

There is something undoubtedly fascinating about being able to recreate the past, and with my mum's high-school bag slung over my shoulder, my nostalgic yearning has never been stronger. This dress has been part of my wardrobe for a few years now, yet I tend to neglect it until I undergo a wave of desire for all things vintage. Recently, I've been lusting over Chloé's summer 2015 collection - one of the leading brands during the 70s now recreates the styles beautifully.

The Principal Principle - turning 18

So, last weekend something crazy happened. I turned 18. Now, to me, 18 marks the beginning of the end. Just a stone-throw a way from 20, which is halfway to 40 - the age at which a midlife crisis is inevitable. I can't be dealing with a midlife crisis.

I know what you're thinking: "drama queen much!"
Yeah. I am unnecessarily dramatic, childish and foolish. Heck. I'm 18! I'm supposed to be! I'm supposed to be scared of getting older, because as the number gets higher, the skirt hem gets lower, the coffee gets stronger and the mornings get harder. That's what happens in movies, anyway. Fickle as it sounds, I feel as though my youth is my redeeming characteristic amongst the platter of annoying habits that I've been cursed with. Obviously, turning 18 hasn't really  changed anything, but it's the principle. I'm aging. Every year I tell somebody my age, I will be perceived differently. Expectations increase. Am I ready to live up to them?
I'm still young.

To commiserate celebrate my birthday, I thought I'd host a little tea party. This is the furthest away from the average 18th celebration in Britain. My garden was transformed (well, hardly) with pennant banners, cushioned chairs and outdoor candles. There were so many cupcakes. So. Many. Cupcakes. My mother kindly made these as well as biscuits and macaroons, and they looked fantastic on the various stands and platters that were on the table. Everything was pretty, floral , polka-dotted and sweet. Regrettably, I didn't take may photos of the party before it started. After about an hour, approximately 60% of the marshmallows were on the floor. Oh well. It was a lovely night, and I'm lucky to have such wonderful friends.

My birthday was the debut of an African print Topshop Pini. I'll just remind you that I wrote a blog post when I purchased it in January. This dress had been sitting in my wardrobe, unworn for almost exactly 6 months. That's shameful. I suppose it serves me right for  buying too many dresses in Topshop sales. As you can see, the prom flower crown is back, and I threw on this Forever21 blazer over the top!

So there you have it. HA, I'm a legal adult!

Very quickly, I'd like to draw your attention to the new additions to my blog! I've now got cute little buttons on my sidebar hehe

Broom Broom Buy Buy

Hi, dear readers.
As my summer starts early, I've decided to make the most of the opportunity by being as productive as possible. This involves pestering my parents and friends  (or frankly anybody that will accompany me) to come on adventures. My summer adventures.

Last Saturday's adventure included a day trip to Silverston circuit where we watched a series of qualifying rounds and races. It was refreshing to head to a destination other than a shopping centre or a cinema, and I would recommend it as a family day out.

Now, I'm hardly a grease-monkey, but I must admit I get watery-mouthed at the mere mention of certain automobiles. MG Midgets, old Triumph bikes, Chevy Cameros. More like automobabes. That's right, I fangirl over much more than just Topshop cutout boots. To my delight, there was a beautiful range of cars racing, such as Citroen 2CV6s, retro Minis and of course a rainbow of MGs. I have already vowed to own an MG Midget one day. Broom broom.

After admiring the drifts and skids of the racing drivers, we drove through Towcester where we visited the most beautiful shop. It was a celestial palace of vintage miscellaneous. I will definitely be returning with a suitcase of money and hired van. Buy buy buy. Kooky havens like this make it so easy to slip into the hoarding lifestyle. Buy buy buy.

Isn't it beautiful? I'd really like to return to buy a working typewriter and polaroid camera.
So, vintage lives on.

we are running on a sea of our desire

Hello! Today I whipped out my Levi's cords! Spring, I'm ready.

This jumper was actually made for me and I love it! It's so abstract and warm. I am a massive fan of kooky jumpers, and it's nice to know that this one is one of a kind. I rarely wear jumpers without shirts underneath, but today I thought I'd give my shoulders a teeny bit of exposure (yay shoulders). Plus, I wear shirts too often and who wants to be seen wearing the same old items? Not me.

I paired some two-toned Oxfords with a tan belt and added a flower crown and lip ombre to complete the look. I kinda like being matchy-matchy (loser). I had to ask my father to punch holes in this leather belt; it's rather inconvenient that most shops don's stock belts for petite folk like me. Darn you, genes!

That'll be all for today, reader. Thanks for visiting!
