Do you ever slip into that depressing mind-set that makes you truly and utterly believe that you have NOTHING to wear. This is despite the mountain of clothes you have in your wardrobe, on your floor and hidden away to save your conscience. Yes, today was one of those days.
Being denied the opportunity to wear shorts to school makes me feel obliged to wear them on weekends, so that was step one of the outfit complete. Then came the task of picking a top. And of course I needed something more substantial in case it got cold! Oh - and appropriate tights! I needed the right belt, shoes, lipstick, bag...
Woefully dismissing top after top, I came across this Cat in the Hat t-shirt. It had actually been an impulse buy at a local convenience store. The t-shirt was originally a men's pyjama tee, but with the DIY spirit of summer 2012 it was soon cut up into a baggy tank top.
After finding this top and remembering how it came to be, I realised that fashion isn't about having the perfect individual pieces. It's about creativity. It's about that satisfying feeling you get from knowing that nobody can copy that deep-rooted passion we call style. It's about experimenting and expressing. It's about fun.
Typically, the rest of the outfit fell into place upon having this epiphany.
